Today was opening day for softball. Both Maya and Kiran are playing this year. We had a cold opening day, temps in the low 50s with gale force winds. We all had to thaw afterward.
The Wiedenbecks (local business sponsor). Maya is number 3 because she was born on the 3rd. Her coaches Andrea and Julie are great. The girls on the team are 6th & 7th graders.
Right before the game. She wore the sweatshirt the whole time and was still cold!
They announced each player and the coaches before the game. Maya is 5th from the left. The Wieds won their first game of the season 10 to 7.
Kiran before the game.
This is after they introduced the players and coaches. Kiran is the one in the middle with the long red sleeves. Notice the girl behind her that's a good foot taller than she is. Kiran is the smallest, although not the youngest, girl on her team. There is one 2nd grader and the rest are 3rd, 4th or 5th grade.
They had Kiran play catcher one inning. The knee/shin guards where so big on her they went up to her thighs. She got on base 3 times during the game but her team lost their opeing game 5 to 7.
This is Kiran's team, Dr. Pepper. Kiran is bottom row with red sleeves. Her coaches are Tom and Jim. It's a nice group of girls. Some of the 5th graders have been on a team with Maya in the past and like to call Kiran "mini-Maya".
